Hi Everyone, We have just verified the AVC encode from MainConcept's Reference Encoder does not create a legal Blu-ray AVC stream as verified by the Sony and Panasonic verifiers. We have contacted MainConcept on this issue and will be updating our wikipaper found here http://dostudio.netblender.com/wikipapers/Encoders1.asp with the full details. We will also let everyone know as soon as their encodes are valid Blu-ray AVC streams. Sincerely, Owen NetBlender Sales

Been testing Refernece AVC for some time and I have to say. MainConcept are sloppy, some real basic (obvious) user interface errors I have reported. I am not surprised they are not legal at all, although I have used them in DoStudio and made them work????
I used to use DVDit V2.5 :)

Owen,
Can you please check this again now that version 1.5 is out? I think they have fixed some issues.

Hallo, with REFERENCE 1.5 MAC the AVC and VC-1-files will pass through DVDitHD 6.4 as valid streams. Mainconcept was working hard to delete the problems within Reference and finally released REFERENCE 1.5 MAC after the bugs have benn fixed.
So I guess it might be possible to use this streams with dostudio, too.

Hallo Again, after a few more test, a swiss collegue (Denis) and I may have been pointed to a few major bugs in the AVC-Plugin from REFERENCE 1.5:
1. FIELD DOMINACE: if you´re encoding UPPER FILD FIRST-material, it will be encoded to LOWER FIRST! We both could see this within the properties of DVDitHD. I have tested a burned BD with the PS3 and a tube-reference-monitor, but the picture looks OK - Will test this with other material again (more action, more motion)
If your encoding VC-1-material UPPER FIRST, it will be shown as UPPER FIRST within the properties of DVDitHD. AVC-material, that will be encoded progressively will be shown correct, progressive within DVDitHD-properties.
2. BITRATE: Denis and I found out, that it´s not possible to use any other AVC bitrates then the preset. These files seems not to be BD-spec-complient and will be transcode within DVDitHD to MPEG2HD.
NOTE: Scott Epstein, Product-Manager of ROXIO/Sonic told me, that only 100% Spec-complient files wont be transcoded, they will be analysed while importing.
As a compare I tested a VC-1-file that had higher bitrates than 24MBit, made with reference, theses files were accepted within DVDitHD and muxed fine to a diskvolume.
This could be a problem especially with DVDitHD, We´re not sure about this! Maybe you could give us more information about the streams.
THESE PROBLEMS COULD BE FOUND IN THE MAC AND THE PC-VERSION.
I informed Mainconcpet about this today, and hope to get a fast responce!

UPDATE: HOTFIX
I was in contact with the Mainconcept Support within the last 2 week, and they have been bussy working on the problem and finally they offer a hotfix. An Update will follow as soon as possible!
Here is how it works:
If you want to use other Bitrates than the BD-Preset you have to change the Rate Control VBV buffer size within the advanced settings>miscellaneous to 3749952.
I tested these files and they are fine. It´s necessary to change the buffer-size every time you change the bitrate, so better change the bitrate first!
the field-dominance-problem is OK, too. if you are outputting an upper field first, it will be an upper first-AVC-file. there seems to be a minor bug within DVDitHD6.4 that upper field AVC-streams will e declared as lower field.
this was tested with 2 stream-verifier.
