I have footage from a Canon HDV camera which is native 1440x1080. I encoded it to m4v using the h.264 codec in Premiere.

So my two questions are, first how to I use 1440x1080 footage in DSA, when everything is set to 1920x1080? Correct me if I am wrong, but 1440x1080 is a 1080i HD standard. How do people use DSA for 720p footage (1280x720)?

Second question is DSA appears to support m2v but not m4v. Are my files compatible and how to I get DSA to import them?

Thanks
Tom

This would make a good Sticky note.

I understand we can use MPEG-2, MPEG4 AVC / H.264 & SMPTE VC-1 but can someone list ALL the actual allowable frame sizes AND frame rates for Blu-ray here.

Cheers

We will post a wikipaper soon that offers a more comprehensive overview of the video codecs and legal sizes, but here is a quick chart for starters:

HD
1920x1080x59.94-i, 50-i (16:9)
1920x1080x24-p, 23.976-p (16:9)
1440x1080x59.94-i, 50-i (16:9) MPEG-4 AVC / SMPTE VC-1 only
1440x1080x24-p, 23.976-p (16:9) MPEG-4 AVC / SMPTE VC-1 only
1280x720x59.94-p, 50-p (16:9)
1280x720x24-p, 23.976-p (16:9)

SD
720x480x59.94-i (4:3/16:9)
720x576x50-i (4:3/16:9)

Is a h.264 m4v file the same as a m4v AVC file?

I exported this file using Adobe Premiere, settings as blu-ray with h.264 codec, exported to a m4v file. How do I know if it's compatible?

How does DSA deal with 1440x1080 footage? Does it automatically upscale it to 1920? How does it deal with the size difference?

Another question, how do I preview a DSA build locally on the computer, without either burning a disc or doing a complete compile? Is there a built in preview function?

Hi Tom,

There is an option within the Smart Support Tool to request a copy of WinDVD Developers Edition. This allows you to play back your compiled project from Hard Disk.

As of yet, there is no built in preview option.

Hey Tom,

regarding how DSA handles 1440... it doesn't modify or really touch your stream in any way. If you made a spec compliant 1440 video stream, then how it is displayed will be handled in the player at the time of playback and each player will handle it however it was designed to.
